International Women's Day: Inspire Inclusion

Joanne, Office Manager/Director

How did you get into your current role?

I joined Dynamic Design Consultants Ltd in September 2005.  I had just completed a part-time HNC course in Business Management and had thoroughly enjoyed the accounting, legal, and human resource modules. I have always been self-motivated and eager to learn, during my time at Dynamic Design Consultants Ltd I went on to complete numerous training courses including the Nebosh Health and Safety Diploma.  I am extremely organised and a logical thinker I believe this coupled with my instincts to problem solve paved the way for my many promotions within Dynamic Design Consultants Ltd.

What women role models do you have in the field?

My employment history began in a local coffee shop that was owned/ran by a truly inspirational lady.  She was the ultimate multi-tasker with an eagle eye for attention to detail and she left a huge impression on me.  I went onto work in the Civil Service and a Manufacturing Company and found myself surrounded by capable and hardworking ladies.  When I started at Dynamic Design Consultants Ltd it was clear that they are a forward thinking company, although it was at that time male dominated, I found that everyone had a role to play, hard-work and going that extra mile was appreciated and rewarded from management.

How is inclusion inspired at Dynamic Designs?

My own role in the Company is a reflection of how inclusive Dynamic Design Consultants Ltd is.  The company has supported and inspired me to believe that I can achieve goals that may at one time I thought I would not be capable of achieving. Everyday brings something new, I get excited working on new Projects that lead to more opportunities for me and the business.

What achievement in your career so far are you most proud of?

In 2018 I was appointed Director.  I have been part of the Dynamic team for a long time and I am extremely proud of how the company has grown from strength to strength.  We have a great team and wonderful Clients.  With the focus on environmental and Revit design I’m excited to see what our Project Portfolio will look like in five years.

What does International Women's Day mean to you, and how do you think it can inspire future generations?

I remember a conversation that I had with a peer many years ago, I was telling him what I wanted for the future and he said “Joanne, you want it all”  He was right I do want it all.  I have been fortunate to work in a company that gave me the confidence to have a voice.  I have learned over the years that my role within the work place and outside the work place is constantly evolving, we face challenges everyday and we strive to do our very best.  I have two daughters and I want them to be confident and self-assured in the choices that they make.  International Women Day to me is a celebration to all women that their opinions and choices matter now and for the future generations.

Tracey, Accounting Technician

How did you get into your current role?

I have worked as an Accounting Technician for many years, during the pandemic I was one of many who lost their jobs due to companies closing. I had worked in my last position, in the manufacturing sector, for 14 years. I was extremely lucky to find a part time position here in Dynamic Design within weeks of my redundancy and within a year was a full-time member of the team. I have been here now 4 years this August.

What women role models do you have in the field?

My first boss, in particular was a bit of a role model for me. She was young and determined and was heading to be a financial controller at a fast pace. She was very confident and unapologetic for wanting to succeed. I don’t think I had met anyone like her before.

How is inclusion inspired at Dynamic Designs?

To be fair, I still find the level of inclusion at Dynamic Design so refreshing, as it is honestly not something I had experienced in previous roles. Every member of the team is valued and respected and in turn that is reflected back by all members of the staff.

What achievement in your career so far are you most proud of?

The achievement I am most proud of is achieving the level of FIATI. I was unable to attend my original graduation ceremony, as I had just had my son at the time. At the FIATI ceremony he was able to attend with me and be proud of his mum.

What does International Women's Day mean to you, and how do you think it can inspire future generations?

International Women’s Day is important to me as I want my daughter, now 13, to know she has no limits. I want her to see and know all of the amazing women out there ‘owning’ whatever they choose. For her to see that knowing what you want and going for it, without apology, is just as valid for her as any of the boys.

Chloe, CAD Technician

How did you get into the Mechanical Engineering field?

I had left my previous job and was working on a shop floor to earn money while I decided what career I wanted to pursue next. Mark asked if wanted to try engineering. I said yes and started at Dynamic in Feb 2023. I have really enjoyed it and have since started a HNC Engineering course. I look forward to the future with Engineering.

What women role models do you have in the field?

There are a few women that I have met on certain jobs that are quite inspiring. They have started their careers in the 2000’s or before, when not a lot of women were going into engineering and have continuously worked themselves to the top. Also, one of the directors at Dynamic is a woman – Can’t get much higher than that!

How is inclusion inspired at Dynamic Design?

I like to think Dynamic is very inclusive. I was given a chance to start the job with very little background knowledge. The company has supported me in my learning and my education. Every day I enjoy leaning something different.

What achievement in your career so far are you most proud of?

Since I have been at Dynamic for only a year, my achievements might seem small to others. But I was very pleased when I started my HNC Engineering course and received the highest mark on my first two assignments (haven’t got any other marks back..). I was also proud when I got the hang of certain aspects on the Mechanical Design process. I have a lot of learning still to do but enjoy the progress I’m making.

What does International Women's Day mean to you, and how do you think it can inspire future generations?

It’s a day to celebrate women and inspire future generations to keep doing the same.

Francesca Silvestri, Student Design Engineer

How did you get into the your current role?

I joined Dynamic Design September 2023. I was an Architecture student looking for my part 1 placement year and I was stuck finding an architectural practice. I knew the associate director of Dynamic Design, got in contact with him and now currently 6 months in. I thought it would be good to have the knowledge of M&E engineering when finished my degree in architecture.

What women role models do you have in the field?

I have a few role models in university who are architects in their own practice which inspires me to want to start my own practice one day. I also think Joanne from Dynamic Design, one of the directors is a role model as she is a director of a company that is mostly males, has a family and still is hard working. Which I inspire to be one day.

How is inclusion inspired at Dynamic Designs?

Dynamic Design has supported me in my architecture career even though they are an M&E practice. They took a chance with me which I’m grateful for and look forward to the next 6 months. They have inspired me to achieve my goals and to continue with my degree, and if I didn’t want to continue with architecture, they offered me to stay on working with them.

What achievement in your career so far are you most proud of?

I’m proud of completing and graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in architecture and getting accepted into my master’s degree for architecture.

What does International Women's Day mean to you, and how do you think it can inspire future generations?

I always talk about the future and what I want to do/ complete, and I think International women’s day is great for the younger generation to see how women today can do anything they want when you put your mind to it, and there’s no limit to what women can do.

Lisa Steenson, Administration Assistant

How did you get into the your current role?

I joined Dynamic Design Consultants Ltd in August 2021. I had previously been employed in

the banking industry for 23 years. I answered an advertisement for a part time administration

role and was fortunate to be employed by the company.

What women role models do you have in the field?

I have come across many female role models in my previous employment. Hardworking,

confident, ambitious and capable women, many of whom went on to become excellent

managers.

How is inclusion inspired at Dynamic Designs?

Inclusion is apparent within Dynamic Design by the number of female staff employed by the

company.

What achievement in your career so far are you most proud of?

I was and still am most proud of being a member of a team. I believe teamwork leads to

better communication, understanding and learning. Teams that work together are more

productive and motivated toward company goals.

What does International Women's Day mean to you, and how do you think it can inspire

future generations?

International Women’s Day is a celebration of female employees in whatever path or career

they may choose. I think it can inspire future generations by providing an insight that with

hard work and determination any female can achieve success in whatever field they want.
